How long have you been living in Belgrade and what brings you here?

I lived in Pancevo previously from 2008. to 2010. I recently moved back to Serbia in January 2016. I initially visited Serbia because my husband is from here and I returned because I fell in love with the easygoing lifestyle, the warmest of the people and great tasting foods.

What do you like about being here, and what are the things you don’t like?

The Serbian people are really inviting. The foods and healthcare costs are excellent and inexpensive. I don’t like the trash, graffiti and strayed animals.

What are your favorite spots / tourist attractions in Belgrade?

I like Sunset Club in the Ada Ciganlija. I actually like the Ada area.

What is your favorite local food / drink? Are there some things that you are missing from your country?

I love burek, rakija and the desserts. The bartenders cannot get my mixed drinks correct. I am always displeased with every mixed drinks that i have gotten.

What do you think about locals?

I have a West African background and we are loud set of people. I have that in common with Serbs. I noticed that Serbian talk before they think and they have an awesome sense of humor.

How does the cost of living compare to your country?

OMG! A drastic difference! Medical, housing, foods and entertainments are very inexpensive here compared to America.

Any other tips for fresh expats and travelers?

My advice to new expats would be come prepare to have fun because Serbian people are really fun. If you are an African-American, bring your makeup and hair supplies because you won’t find it here? Be ready to be surrounded by smokers most of the time.
